Kathal ki Sabji | Jackfruit Curry Recipe

Kathal (Jackfruit) ki sabji, a quick and easy recipe for dinner. Kathal is a rich source of dietary fiber and vitamin B6. It's very popular in southern part of India. Ripe jackfruit can be eaten without cooking and is widely sold as chips.

Ingredients for Kathal ki sabji :

Raw Kathal (Jackfruit) : 1 medium bowl (approx. 300 gm)
Tomatoes : 1 cup
Onion : 1 cup
Curd : 1 small bowl
Ginger-Garlic paste: 2 tsp.
Red chilli powder : 2 tsp.
Turmeric powder : 1 tsp.
Coriander powder : 2 tsp.
Salt : To taste
Oil : 4-5 tbsp.
Whole spices (cumin, black pepper, black cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf): For tempering
Water : 1/4 cup

Method :

1. Make a paste by mixing curd, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt.
2. Mix Kathal into this paste and let it rest for 15 minutes.
3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker then add whole spices.
4. When started to crackle, add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for few seconds.
5. Add chopped onions and sauté till golden brown.
6. Add tomatoes and cook till it tenders.
7. Add the curd-kathal mixture, pour some water, mix well and pressure cook for 10-15 minutes.
8. Serve hot with rice or chapati (Indian flatbread).
